Pedestrian Critically Injured After Being Struck Outside Nassau Restaurant

A man is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle outside a popular Long Island restaurant, authorities announced.

Nassau County Police said that a 44-year-old man was driving a 2014 Dodge northbound on North Franklin Street outside La Verna Tavern in Hempstead at approximately 10:05 p.m. on Thursday, July 5 when he struck a pedestrian that was crossing the street.

The pedestrian suffered severe head trauma and was treated at the scene by first responders before being transported by an ambulance to an area hospital to be treated for his injuries, said police.

As of 9:30 a.m. on Friday, July 16, the pedestrian was still hospitalized in stable, but critical condition, police said.

According to police, the driver remained at the scene and was cooperative during the investigation. The vehicle passed a brake and safety check.
